Social Action Project Evaluation

I was asked to create a social action project, I chose to create the project on a well-known and serious problem; my chosen category was underage drinking. I chose to base my project video on Oxford as it is a major city in the UK and was easily accessible.

My product met my client’s specifications, i was asked to create a video to show the public the problems occurring because of underage drinking, within the video I was to show the dangers of underage drinking and whether or not the problem was a concern in Oxford. All procedures carried out to make the video were legal, all music was copyright free and footage was taken with participates aware that a video camera was filming them. When interviewing the interviewee was aware of the type of question that was going to be asked and was told beforehand why the interview was taking place and that it was to be used in a social action video. All necessary paperwork was filled out correctly and to the clients’ satisfaction. It was submitted to the client before the deadline so that any problems or incorrect details could be changed and corrected before the final deadline.

My client was satisfied with the product that they received on the deadline given and felt that it achieved the standards and needs they were asking for. The project was finished by the deadline given to me and the final video was sent to the client to view by that time. My client was aware of any other participates that were involved in the making of the product including, Annie Rose who was the interviewer for my video. My client knew Annie before the video was created and therefore was happy for her to help out with the interviews taking place. My client received regular updates and views of the project when it was being created; I made sure throughout that my client was happy with the footage and music being used.

All meetings that were arranged with either my client or interviewees were attended by myself and were successfully carried for the purpose intended. I worked well alongside others that were participating in my social action video including my interviewee and the people that I interviewed.

The project was an overall success and my client was happy with the final product that was given to them. To improve my video I could use more short interviews with either; the general public asking them on thoughts and opinions of underage drinking this way the video would be more intising to the younger audience, and they could hear storys and opinions of people who are either there age and they could relate to it or people who are older that may have been through an experience; a company that deals with the problem of underage drinking asking them how they deal with the situations that the come across, by doing this people would see a professionals opinion on the situations and may see more clearly what problems may occur; the local police asking them how underage drinkers found are dealt with and what the penalty is, this way people can be aware of the consequeces; local nurses or doctors , this way people (in particular the youngsters that it would be effecting )can see what effects it can have on your body and can learn how to overcome the problem they may have. I was asked to include interviews from a local company that dealt with the highlighted problem of underage drinking however when no company got back to us on filming them for either interviews or other footage my client was happy for me to leave this out of the final project. I was held back by trying to find companies or people to interview about the situation.

The social action project that i created was to inform, educate and raise awareness, it informs people of underage drinking and the effects on the community, it educates people under the age of 18 about the consequences of drinking underage, and raises awareness to the people of oxford that it is happening and should be encouraged to stop. I think the video informed, educated and raised awareness to the public successfully.
